It seems as though the arguments over raising the minimum wage, for or against, will just not go away. I can’t really make a decision over what I think is best, (good thing I’m not “the decider” eh?) so I decided to read a bit from both sides point of view.

The federal minimum has not been raised for 10 years largely due to the lobbying efforts of the business community and their allies in congress. But is the raise in minimum wage really going to be that bad from a business standpoint? After all, it will…

1. Increase consumer purchasing power.
2. Reduce employee turnover.
3. Raise productivity.
4. Improve product quality.
5. Improve customer satisfaction.

Then again, raising the minimum wage too much, too soon could also cause a lot of problems.

When you raise wages, businesses won’t be able to employ as many people. That, or they will have to raise prices of goods and services to compensate. Plus, according to THIS ARTICLE, research has shown that not only does increasing minimum wage not help with poverty levels, it can also reduce teenage education levels and decrease workers’ long-term earnings.

I guess overall I think the minimum wage should be raised since many states have already established a minimum wage higher than the federal level. What do you think?
